The CWSO’s 69th season floats in with something old and something new – from Beethoven and Dvořák to a new composition by Roger L. Nelson, Professor Emeritus at UW-Stevens Point. Nelson, a celebrated composer whose arrangements for the United States Army Band and Chorus are standard repertoire for those organizations, has created Forestscapes, a work for solo violin and orchestra to be premiered by our very own concertmaster, Steven Bjella. Composed in Bohemia during the fall of 1889, Antonín Dvořák’s, Symphony No. 8 is a beloved mix of folk and national themes, and dedicated ‘to the Bohemian Academy of Emperor Franz Joseph for the Encouragement of Arts and Literature, in thanks for my election [to the Prague Academy].’
