Welcome to our 70th Anniversary season! Any time one approaches a milestone, we both reflect on the past, and gaze at the future. For us, here at CWSO, the past began on April 4, 1948 with the premiere performance by what was then called the Central State Symphony Orchestra. The concert began at 8:15 P.M. and included eight pieces: two overtures, an entire Beethoven symphony, a chorus and TWO intermissions. It must have been a lengthy evening. Fast forward seventy years and CWSO is now the leading regional arts organization in Central Wisconsin. It has developed a reputation for performing the greatest orchestral music with talented, local, professional musicians and features both home-grown talent and international artists as soloists.
While the orchestra you see on stage will look much the same, there will be a couple of major changes in the future. Executive Director Ann Huntoon will be retiring in June of 2018. She has worked tirelessly and effectively to grow the orchestra's structural foundation. And, the 2018-19 season will be Maestro Patrick Miles' 17th and concluding year on the podium for CWSO. When asked about his retirement, he answered "I won my first professional orchestra audition as a junior in high school in 1974 when I won a horn position with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. After forty-five years with various orchestras around the country and world, I feel it's time to hang up my baton. It has been such a pleasure and honor to work with the many fabulous musicians of CWSO over the years and I truly appreciate the support that the community has shown me during that time. Thank you to all."
Join us for what will surely be a memorable Seventieth Anniversary Season.
