Premiered in 1952 by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra with dancer Danny Daniels, Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto was a step outside of the normal realm of orchestral soloists. Known for its complex rhythms, with the choreography left to the soloist, the revolutionary work has proven time and again that tap dancing and ‘serious’ composition work very well together, indeed! The CWSO is thrilled to invite Jeannie Hill, Associate Professor of Dance at UW-Stevens Point, to the stage for this remarkable performance. Jeannie produced the Point Tap Festival for six summers, bringing master teachers from across the country to teach and perform. Written as a ‘thank you’ to his hosts in Paris, Gershwin’s American in Paris was premiered by the New York Philharmonic in 1928.
