[STEVENS POINT, WI] The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra invites aspiring young musicians in grades 9 – 12 (or equivalent) during the 2017-18 school year to submit applications for the biennial Betty Frost Jenkins Young Artist Concerto Competition. The mission of the competition is to provide a high-quality performance experience for the finest young musicians from central Wisconsin, and to assist them in pursuing advanced study. The competition will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017. The winner of the competition will receive a $500 cash scholarship made possible through the Betty Frost Jenkins Young Artist Concerto Competition Fund, and will perform as the featured soloist with the CWSO on the December 2nd and 3rd concerts under the direction of Dr. Patrick Miles. The geographical boundaries of this competition are as follows: Highway 8 (north), Highway 21 (south), Highway 13 (west), and Highway 45 (east). Applicants who reside outside of the region, but whose primary source of instruction is located within the boundaries may request an exception. Now in its 69th season, the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra is affiliated with the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
