CWSO Announces Winner of 'So You Think You Can Conduct' Contest

February 5, 2018

[Stevens Point, WI]  The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winner of the fourth annual “So You Think You Can Conduct” contest. Rev. Dr. Clay Schmit, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, will conduct the CWSO in a surprise orchestral work to be revealed at the February 17 and 18 concerts. Schmit states, “As the winner of the CWSO’s ‘So You Think You Can Conduct’ competition, I want to thank my friendly competitors, Dave (Bakken) and Patty (Dreier), and all of the donors that have graciously supported us. Together, we raised over $11,000 in support of our favorite orchestra. The competition was fun and filled with good humor. Through it, I gained some new friendships and cemented others. Of course, the real winners belong to our community, whose symphonic music will continue to thrive. Thank you for your supporting our own CWSO!”
David Bakken, a founding partner in Great Northern Distilling in Plover, and Patty Dreier, Portage County Executive, also ran successful and innovative campaigns, beginning at the October CWSO concerts and running through January 21, 2018.
Past winners of the So You Think You Can Conduct Contest include: Bill Jenkins, Dr. Paul Munck, and WI Rep. Katrina Shankland.
The CWSO is affiliated with the College of Fine Arts & Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and is supported in part by the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
