Dorothy Vetter Bio

Dorothy Vetter lived her entire life in Stevens Point where she was a music teacher and supervisor specializing in vocal music for more than thirty years. She attended city schools and graduated from Stevens Point Normal School in 1923. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northwestern University and Columbia University, respectively.

Miss Vetter began her teaching career in 1935. She worked with choral clubs, church choirs, and community and school productions as a conductor, accompanist and director. It is said that whenever and wherever there was music in Stevens Point, Dorothy Vetter was actively involved. Her other joys in life were attending family events, gardening, animals and travel.

Miss Vetter provided scholarships for University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point music students. She also left funds to establish an endowment fund with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, making this concert possible. The fourth grade concert fulfills one of Dorothy Vetter's dreams for an on-going gift to the students of Portage County.
